Why it is here: it has seven height positions, and height adjustment is the feature that decides whether a bedside bassinet works in your room — the bassinet has to line up with your mattress, and beds are not all the same height. It also has by far the largest review base on this page. In a category where most listings carry a few dozen ratings, thousands of owners means problems show up in the reviews rather than after you buy.

Pros

  • Seven height positions — the most flexible here
  • By far the largest review base on this page
  • Mesh side panels, so you can see the baby from the bed
  • Bedside sleeper design that sits against the bed

Cons

  • One of the pricier bassinets here
  • A stand-mounted sleeper takes up floor space beside the bed
Dream On Me Skylar — The best-reviewed bassinet here, at the lowest price.
Best value

Dream On Me Skylar

The best-reviewed bassinet here, at the lowest price.

Check price on Amazon Price tier: $ · Budget

Why it is here: it has the highest owner rating on this page and one of the lowest prices, which is an unusual combination worth noticing. The listing also spells out the practical details: breathable mesh sides, a plush mattress pad, wheels with safety locks, and a compact fold with a travel bag included. That last part matters more than it sounds — a bedside bassinet that folds and travels can double as the bassinet you take to a grandparents' house.

Pros

  • Highest owner rating on this page
  • Compact fold with a travel bag included
  • Wheels with safety locks
  • Adjustable height
  • One of the two cheapest here

Cons

  • A fabric-and-mesh shell rather than furniture — it looks like equipment, not decor
  • Fewer height positions than the Dreamer
Evolur Lullaby — A bassinet you wheel from room to room.
Best for rolling between rooms

Evolur Lullaby

A bassinet you wheel from room to room.

Why it is here: the listing calls out wheels, breathable mesh sides and a large storage basket, and it is priced with the budget pair. The storage underneath is the underrated part: a bassinet beside the bed is where nappies, wipes and spare sheets end up, and having a basket built into the frame stops that becoming a pile on the floor. It also comes with a carry bag, so it is not tied to one room.

Pros

  • Wheels, so it can move between rooms
  • Large storage basket underneath
  • Breathable mesh sides
  • Priced at the bottom of this page

Cons

  • A modest review base compared with the two above
  • Portable-framed bassinets generally feel less solid than a wooden one
HALO BassiNest — A base that tucks under the bed frame.
Slides over the bed

HALO BassiNest

A base that tucks under the bed frame.

Check price on Amazon Price tier: $$ · Mid-range

Why it is here: it is the originator of the design the others are measured against — instead of standing on the floor beside the bed, the BassiNest hangs over a base that slides under the mattress, so the sleeping area sits closer to you and the floor stays clear. The listing calls out mesh walls. Read this before choosing it: this listing carries a much thinner review base than the rest of the page, and its average sits below the others — so read the recent reviews rather than trusting the design's reputation.

Pros

  • Base slides under the bed instead of standing beside it
  • Keeps the floor clear in a small room
  • Mesh walls
  • The best-known name in this category

Cons

  • Much thinner review base than the others here, with a lower average
  • Pricier than the budget pair without adding features they lack
Delta Children Bondi — A bassinet that reads as furniture.
Best wooden frame

Delta Children Bondi

A bassinet that reads as furniture.

Check price on Amazon Price tier: $$ · Mid-range

Why it is here: it is the one on this page built on a wooden frame — beechwood, with an FSC-certified wood listing and a mesh sheet — which is a different proposition from the fabric-and-metal stands. If the bassinet is going in a room you look at all day, and you want it to look like a piece of furniture rather than a piece of equipment, this is the one that does that. It has adjustable height, and a lower shelf for storage.

Pros

  • Wooden beechwood frame — the only one here that reads as furniture
  • FSC-certified wood listed
  • Height adjustable
  • Shelf underneath

Cons

  • A thin review base — read the recent reviews
  • Wooden frames are heavier to move than a rolling stand
Newton Baby Bassinet — Buying the mattress and sheet in the box.
Mattress included

Newton Baby Bassinet

Buying the mattress and sheet in the box.

Check price on Amazon Price tier: $$$ · Premium

Why it is here: it is the most expensive bassinet on this page, and what the price buys is that it arrives with its mattress and sheet included rather than as a shell you then have to fit out. Newton is the brand most associated with washable, breathable mattress construction in the crib market, and this is that line carried down into a bedside sleeper. Its owner rating is high, but again on a review base far smaller than the Dreamer's.

Pros

  • Comes with mattress and sheet included
  • Highest owner rating on this page
  • Newton's washable mattress design
  • Bedside sleeper with adjustable height

Cons

  • The most expensive bassinet here by a clear margin
  • The review base is small — the rating is high but it is built on few owners
  • A bassinet is used for a short window, so the premium is harder to justify than on a crib

How this list is built

How this list is built

This page describes products. It does not give sleep guidance — that belongs with your clinician and with the manufacturer's manual, not with a review site. Here is what the comparison is actually based on.

01

Manufacturer specifications only

Height positions, weight and height limits, materials and included parts are read from each product's own listing. Nothing is inferred from a photo, and no measurement is estimated.

02

Review base size, stated openly

This category has far thinner review data than car seats or strollers. Rather than hide that, each entry says how deep its review base actually is — a high rating built on a few dozen owners is not the same evidence as one built on thousands.

03

Fit before features

A bedside bassinet has to line up with your mattress and fit the space beside your bed. Seats are grouped by the constraint they solve — height adjustment, footprint, storage, how they attach — rather than by badge.

04

Recall data

The CPSC publishes recalls publicly. Any model with an open recall comes off this list rather than getting a footnote.

05

What this page will not do

It will not tell you how or where an infant should sleep, how long to use a bassinet, or when to move a child to a crib. Those are questions for the product's own manual and for your provider.

Common questions

Bedside bassinet questions, answered

What is a BassiNest?

BassiNest is HALO's range of bedside sleepers. The design difference is the stand: instead of standing on the floor next to the bed, the sleeping area hangs over a base that slides under the mattress, so the bassinet sits over the bed rather than beside it and the floor stays clear.

We have a separate full review of the swivel version, which is linked at the bottom of this page, and the standard BassiNest is compared in the table above.

How big should a bassinet be?

A bassinet is sized to be small enough to keep beside a bed and to be outgrown — that is the whole point of it. What matters in practice is the footprint of the stand, because that is what has to fit in the gap between your bed and the wall, and the mattress size, which has to match the sheets and pads you buy.

The exact dimensions for each model are stated in its own listing, and we have a separate guide to bassinet mattress and pad sizes if you are trying to match bedding.

How tall is too tall for a bassinet?

Every bassinet lists its own height and weight limits, and the one that governs is printed in the manual for the specific model you buy — not a general figure that applies across the category. The height limit is the one that tends to arrive first, before the weight limit.

If you want to know whether your child is near the limit for a particular bassinet, the manufacturer's manual is the document to check, and your provider can talk through your own child.

What is the tallest bedside bassinet?

It depends what you mean by tall, because there are two different measurements: how high the sleeping surface can be raised, and how many positions it can be set to in between. On height positions, the Baby Delight Beside Me Dreamer on this page offers seven, and the others are adjustable to a lesser degree.

The specific height range for each model is listed by the manufacturer. Since the point of the adjustment is to line the bassinet up with your own mattress, measure your bed height first and then check the listed range rather than guessing from photos.

How long can your baby stay in a bassinet?

The answer for a specific bassinet is its listed weight and height limit, both printed in its manual — the limit is part of the product, not a general rule. In practice the height limit is usually reached before the weight limit.

Because that limit is a manufacturer's specification, the manual is the place to check it, and any question about your own child's growth is one for your provider.

At what age should you stop using a bedside bassinet?

There is no universal age. A bassinet is outgrown against its own listed limits — the weight and height the manufacturer sets for that model — and those limits differ between the products on this page, which is why we state them per product rather than giving one number here.

When to move a child out of a bassinet and into a crib is a decision for your provider and, for the product side of it, the manufacturer's manual. This page compares bassinets; it does not advise on your child.
